The OpenLearn platform offers a free online course titled Living In A Globalised World.
Using the United States and Mexico as a prime example, this free course examines living in a globalized world how unequal access to material wealth can lead to border tensions. You will also learn how many advanced economies now rely on migrant workers for jobs that their citizens don't want to think about. How equal in a globalized world?
This course interrogates the idea of the globalized world by showing how inequalities in accessing material wealth and lifestyle expectations, created historically between the United States and Mexico, produce border tensions as Mexicans seek to enter the United States to perform jobs that American citizens refuse to work on due to Remuneration offered. This topic is particularly relevant today in the context of discussions about free trade and the transition of the workforce to where they can find work, and that many advanced economies in particular are currently dependent on migrant workers to work in areas where their citizens may not want to work.

After studying this course, you should be able to:
- understand some of the key ways in which globalisation is shaping the world today
- give examples of how ideas of 'proximity' and 'distance' can be used to understand an increasingly demanding world
- illustrate the importance of recognising the liveliness of the natural world.
